About Qatar
Qatar is the location of this year's World Cup. Qatar is located in West Asia on a penninsula sharing it's only border with Saudi Arabia. Qatar is on of the wealthiest countries in the world due to it's rich natural resources. Qatar is both a muslim and arab country is the first of both to host a world cup.
Qatar's flag's white portion represents peace meanwhile the maroon represents the wars and bloodshed the country has gone through. The line with a jagged edge has 9 points representing Qatar as the 9th memeber of the "reconciled Emirates" of the Persian gulf
Stadiums for the World Cup
The 2022 world cup has a total of 8 stadiums:
- The Lusail Stadium which will host the finals and the opening matches. The design is based on the 'interplay of light and shadow that characterises the fanar lantern'.
- The Al Janoub stadium formerly known as the Al Wakrah stadium. It's desgin is based of the sales of the arabic dhow boats traditional to Qatar.
- The Al Bayt stadium is designed after a traditional arabic tent known as 'bayt al sha'ar'. The stadium also contains a 5-star hotel and a shopping center.
- The Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium formerly known as the Al-Rayyan Stadium is meant to represent Qatari culture. It was built near the dessert in order for the nearby hospitality areas and merchandise stalls outside the stadium to look like sand dunes.
- The Education City Stadium is shaped like a diamond and shines by day and glows through the night leading to the nickname 'the diamond in the desert'.
- The Al Thumama Stadium was inspired by the 'gahfiya', a traditional headwear of men in the middle east. A mosque and hotel will also open on site.
- Stadium 974 was made by 974 shipping containers and other materials that are easy to dismantle for after the world cup.
- The Khalifa International Stadium is the only stadium not built after Qatar was presented as the hosts of the World Cup. Built in 1976 and will now face some renovations in preperation for the World Cup. It is also the country's national stadium.
